Our Story

Hands from multiple people forming a heart shape

Carmen’s House of Hope was founded in 2026 with a simple yet powerful vision: to create a place where children and young adults with developmental challenges are not only cared for, but truly seen, valued, and loved.

The inspiration behind Carmen’s House of Hope is rooted in compassion, resilience, and the belief that every individual regardless of ability deserves the opportunity to live a life filled with dignity, purpose, and joy. What began as a dream to make a difference has grown into a nurturing home where care goes beyond meeting basic needs. Here, every smile is celebrated, every milestone is meaningful, and every individual is embraced for exactly who they are.

At the heart of Carmen’s House of Hope is a commitment to providing personalized support through love, patience, and understanding. We recognize that each resident has a unique journey, and we honor that by creating individualized care experiences that foster growth, independence, and confidence. Our team is dedicated to building genuine connections, ensuring that those in our care feel safe, supported, and empowered every single day.

More than just a residence, Carmen’s House of Hope is a community. It is a place where families find comfort, where individuals discover their strengths, and where hope is woven into every interaction. Through compassion driven care, we strive to create an environment where inclusion is not just a goal, but a lived reality.

As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same: to uplift, to support, and to inspire. Carmen’s House of Hope stands as a reminder that with love, compassion, and unwavering dedication, we can create a world where everyone belongs.

Equity, Inclusion & Accountability Statement

At Carmen’s House of Hope, we recognize that inequity and oppression are deeply embedded within systems – not only in individual attitudes or actions. As an organization dedicated to supporting children and young adults with developmental and complex needs, we are committed to actively identifying, challenging, and transforming the structures that perpetuate systemic barriers, including racism, anti-Blackness, anti-Indigenous discrimination, ableism, and all forms of marginalization.

We believe that true care extends beyond service delivery – it requires advocacy, intentional inclusion, and a commitment to equity in every aspect of our work. We strive to create a safe, respectful, and empowering environment where every individual is seen, heard, and valued for who they are.

This is not a one-time statement, but an ongoing practice. Carmen’s House of Hope is grounded in continuous learning, accountability, and meaningful action as we work to foster a more just, inclusive, and compassionate community for all.

Guiding Principles

Anti-Racism

We actively identify, name, and challenge racism in all its forms: interpersonal, institutional, and systemic. We are committed to fostering an environment where equity, respect, and dignity are upheld for every individual we serve.

Decolonization

We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonial systems and are committed to learning from and uplifting Indigenous voices, knowledge, and perspectives. We strive to provide care that is respectful, culturally responsive, and rooted in understanding.

Intersectionality

We recognize that each individual’s experience is shaped by overlapping identities and systems of oppression, including race, ability, gender, class, and more. Our approach to care is holistic, inclusive, and responsive to these complexities.

Person-Centered Voice & Choice

We believe that individuals are experts in their own lives. Those we support are not passive recipients of care – they are active participants in decision-making, with the right to express their needs, preferences, and goals.

Accountability Over Optics

We prioritize meaningful, measurable action over performative gestures. We hold ourselves accountable through continuous reflection, education, and improvement to ensure our values are reflected in our daily practices.
